Ukraine: Bishop Nicholas serves in Kiev Caves Lavra on Sunday of Fathers of First Ecumenical Council

On June 9, the Sunday of the Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council, His Beatitude Onufry, Metropolitan of Kiev & All Ukraine, celebrated Divine Liturgy in Dormition Cathedral of the Holy Dormition-Kiev Caves Lavra, reports the UOC’s Department of Information & Education.

Concelebrating with His Beatitude were Metropolitan Paul of Vyshgorod & Chernobyl, Archbishop Barsanuphius of Vynnitsa & Bar, Bishop Alexis of Voznesensk & Pervomaysk, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, Bishop Victor of Baryshevka, rector of the Kiev Theological Academy Bishop Silvester of Belogorod, as well as monastery brethren and visiting clergy.

Praying at the Liturgy were parishioners and pilgrims of the monastery.

After the reading of the Holy Gospel, the Primate greeted the faithful with a sermon.

During Liturgy, prayers were offered up for peace in Ukraine and for the unity of the Orthodox Church.

Upon conclusion of Liturgy, a short moleben was served to the Holy Fathers of the First Ecumenical Council. Afterward, the Archpastor congratulated the flock with the feast and talked how the Holy Fathers, whose memory the Church celebrates today, defended Orthodoxy. His Beatitude explained why it is so vital to guard the purity of the Orthodox Faith.

On the evening prior, June 8, His Beatitude led the All-Night Vigil in the same cathedral.
