On Monday, September 9, the Kursk Root icon of the Mother of God was brought to Holy Resurrection Diocesan Cathedral in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
The holy icon arrived in Kyrgyzstan accompanied by a delegation from the Russian Church Abroad, led by His Grace, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan. Greeting the wonderworking image of the Theotokos at the airport was His Grace Daniel, Bishop of Bishkek & Kyrgyzstan.
After a triumphal greeting of the icon on the cathedral square and its entrance into Holy Resurrection Cathedral, the Akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos was served with a thanksgiving moleben. The service was led by His Eminence Vikenty (Vincent), Metropolitan of Tashkent & Uzbekistan, co-served by Bishops Daniel and Nicholas, the clergy of the Diocese of Bishkek, and visiting clerics.
Upon completion of the service, the three hierarchs addressed the roughly thousand parishioners in attendance with archpastoral words of greeting.
