Harrisonburg, VA: Wonderworking Kursk Root Icon visits Holy Myrrhbearers Church

On Monday evening, December 2, the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God visited Holy Myrrhbearers Church in Harrisonburg, VA. The local clergy – rector Priest Gabriel Weller and Priest Richard Reed – joined by Hieromonk Felipe (Balingit; ROCOR cleric), served a thanksgiving moleben with the akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos before the holy icon. Everyone was anointed with holy myrrh from the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Mother of God.

The visit was especially meaningful for the parish, as December 2 is the birthday of the parish’s founder and former rector, Archpriest John Moses of blessed memory, who reposed on July 25 of this year.

At sunrise the following morning, Tuesday, December 3, the clergy and parishioners traveled to the parish’s new land, where the akathist was sung once more as the sun rose in splendid colors. The icon then returned to Washington, DC, to conclude its week-long visitation to area parishes.
