New York City: On Feast of Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, Metropolitan Hilarion leads Divine Services in Synodal Cathedral

On Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of April, the great feast of the Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, led the All-Night Vigil and celebrated Divine Liturgy, co-served by Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, cathedral dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer, Protodeacon Serge Arlievsky (cleric of Holy Dormition Convent "Novo-Diveevo" in Nanuet, NY), and Hierodeacon Panteleimon (Jigalin; diocesan cleric). For those who wished to pray along with the divine services but unable to do so in person due to the current pandemic, the cathedral organized live-streaming online.

His Eminence performed the traditional blessing of the palms and pussy willows at the All-Night Vigil, while upon the completion of Liturgy, he greeted the clergy, choir, and the faithful at home with the feast, saying, in part:

"The holy prophets foresaw the coming of Christ into the world, and His sufferings. Christ enters into Jerusalem in order to perform the great work of our salvation, to suffer and by His divine power to rise from the dead, opening the gates of Paradise for all who will believe in Him and live according to His commandments. And today we must rejoice, glorifying and thanking the Lord God for accomplishing our salvation and granting us the chance to be reborn.

"In these days, as we commemorate the sufferings of the Savior, His path to the glorious Resurrection comes to its end. Let us prepare ourselves spiritually, in order to fill these days constructively, to strengthen our spiritual lives, and to greet with joy Christ’s glorious Resurrection."
