Jackson, NJ: Bishop Nicholas visits St. Vladimir Memorial Church with Kursk Root Icon

On December 26-27, the 29th Sunday after Pentecost and the 2nd Sunday before Nativity, that of the Holy Forefathers, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan paid an archpastoral visit to St. Vladimir Memorial Church in Jackson, NJ, where he officiated the divine services. Traveling with His Grace was the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora ‒ the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God.

On Saturday evening, Bishop Nicholas officiated All-Night Vigil, co-served by Abbot Eutychius (Dovgan; diocesan cleric) and Memorial Church clergy: Archpriests Seraphim Chemodakov and Serge Ledkovsky (deputy rector) and Deacon Rostislav Wojtenko.

The following morning, the above-mentioned clergy greeted His Grace in front of the Memorial Church, joined by Protodeacon Eugene Kallaur (cleric of St. Seraphim Memorial Church in Sea Cliff, NY). The hierarch then celebrated Divine Liturgy.

Throughout both services, the faithful had an opportunity to venerate the wonderworking image and offer up their fervent prayers to the Mother of God before it.

Upon completion of Liturgy, His Grace addressed the gathered worshippers with a sermon, in which he noted that it is the very same God-pleasing saints of the Old Testament ‒ the Holy Forefathers, whose memory was being celebrated that day ‒ that are depicted around the Kursk Icon.

After the service, a bountiful lenten luncheon was served in the parish hall. Bishop Nicholas then led an annual meeting of the St. Vladimir Society.
