On Thursday, June 10, the great feast of the Ascension of the Lord, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan paid an archpastoral visit to the Monastery of the Glorious Ascension in Resaca, GA, where he officiated the patronal feast, serving festal Matins and celebrating Divine Liturgy.
Concelebrating with the vicar of the Eastern American Diocese were: Archimandrite Maximos (Weimar; monastery abbot), Archpriest Paul Burholt (rector of St. Basil the Great Mission in Marietta, GA), Hieromonk Vasileios (Willard; deputy abbot), Hieromonk Sophronios (Sanguinetti; monastery cleric), Priest David Prestridge (rector of St. Bartholomew Western Rite Church in Chattanooga, TN), and Priest Justinian Burnett and Deacon Michael Wells (monastery clerics).
Prior to the start of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas tonsured Noah Jones and Ignatios Burton readers, and then ordained Readers Gregory Coleman and Ignatios subdeacons. After the Eucharistic Canon, Subdeacon Laurence Powell was ordained to the diaconate. The newly ordained Deacon Laurence will fulfill his service at Glorious Ascension Monastery.
Upon conclusion of Liturgy, Bishop Nicholas addressed the faithful with a sermon on the feast.
After the service, the clergy and faithful enjoyed an edifying luncheon and fellowship, hosted by the nuns in residence with the assistance of many friends of the monastery in attendance.
