Howell, NJ: Protodeacon Nicholas Lukianov reposed in the Lord

On the morning of Monday, September 27, the great feast of the Exaltation of the Cross of the Lord, Protodeacon Nicholas Lukianov (cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, NJ) reposed in the Lord. He was 57 years old.

Ordained to the diaconate by then-Archbishop Hilarion of Sydney, Australia & New Zealand in 1998, Fr. Nicholas was a lifelong cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Church (and then Cathedral) in Howell, where his father, the ever-memorable Protopresbyter Valery Lukianov, served as rector for 50 years.

Extremely knowledgeable in the rubrics of the Orthodox Church, Fr. Nicholas trained an entire generation of readers and choir members at the cathedral and beyond. Metropolitan Hilarion elevated him to the rank of protodeacon in 2009. Despite recurring illnesses, Fr. Nicholas showed his dedication and love for the divine services, and served as often as he was able.

He is survived by his Matushka Anna and their three daughters: Marina and her husband Karolis Jackevicius, Sophia, and Tatiana, his mother Matushka Irina, four brothers (in order of age): Alexis (Katherine), Archpriest Serge (Matushka Lubov), Reader John (Nina), Subdeacon Alexander (Maria), and their children and grandchildren.
