Methuen, MA: Bishop Nicholas officiates Patronal Feast of St. Xenia Parish

On Thursday the 23rd and Friday the 24th of September, His Grace Nicholas, Bishop of Manhattan, officiated the divine services in honor of the patronal feast day of St. Xenia Church in Methuen, MA.

All-Night Vigil was served on Thursday evening; serving alongside the vicar of the Eastern American Diocese were parish clerics: rector Archpriest Michael Crowley, Priest Constantine Desrosiers, and Deacons Alexander Doohovskoy, Dimitri Doohovskoy, and John Sarantakis.. A meal for the serving clergy was prepared by Meghan Nettleton and served with help from the sisterhood after the Vigil.

On Friday morning, Bishop Nicholas celebrated Divine Liturgy. The above-mentioned clerics were joined by Archpriest Chad Williams (rector of St. Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church in Richmond, ME), Archpriest Brendan Crowley (rector of St. Nicholas Church in Enfield, CT), and Archpriest Constantine Semyanko (rector of Holy Presentation Church in Stratford, CT).

In the center of the church, flanked by icons of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos and of Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, was the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God, which the faithful venerated throughout the course of the divine services.

Though a weekday, a large number of parishioners and guests worshipped prayerfully and communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries as the choir, directed by Laryssa Doohovskoy, sang beautifully.

Liturgy was followed by a moleben and procession around the church, which God blessed with warm rain from above.

The sisterhood provided a bountiful lenten luncheon, served afterward on the church grounds.

Just before departing, Bishop Nicholas served a litia for the departed in the cemetery for Metropolitans Vitaly and Laurus of blessed memory, and the recently departed Matushka Anna Crowley, Emilia Klar, and the murder victims in Jordanville: Michael and Sofia.

The parish expressed their immense gratitude to Bishop Nicholas for gracing them with his visit, and look forward to his return.
