New York City: Divine Services, Reading of Canon of St. Andrew of Crete held in Synodal Cathedral

With the start of Great Lent, the divine services with the reading of the Great Canon of St. Andrew of Crete were held in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. On Monday the 7th and Thursday the 10th of March, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan officiated Great Compline with the reading of the Great Canon. On Tuesday the 8th and Wednesday the 9th of March, the Canon of St. Andrew was read by Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal & Canada.

The Synodal choir sang the services with tender devotion. On Thursday, the Protectress of the Russian Diaspora – the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God – was present in the cathedral.

Serving alongside the hierarchs at the services were cathedral clerics: dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer and Protodeacon Nicolas Mokhoff. In the Synod’s lower St. Sergius Church, Abbot Zosimas (Krampis) read the Great Canon for English-speaking parishioners.

Parishioners and faithful from other churches in the city gathered to pray at Grand Compline with the reading of the Canon in the Cathedral of the Sign. Upon completion of the service, the faithful had the opportunity to venerate the Kursk Icon.
