Eastern American Diocesan Parishes & Monasteries continue Construction, Restoration Projects

As the summer sun beats down on the continental United States, many parishes and monasteries across the Eastern American Diocese are forging ahead with various construction and restoration projects:

In July 2022, Eastern American Diocesan vicar Bishop Luke of Syracuse, abbot of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY, released a summer appeal regarding various restoration projects throughout the monastery and seminary grounds, republished in part here:

The monastery dormitory currently has an inadequate septic disposal system that needs urgent repair. We also need to replace the aging flooring in the monastic building as it is crumbling and breaking into pieces. We need to install a new hood and exhaust fan system in our kitchen to be up to code.

Our carpentry shop roof needs to be replaced so that the woodworking tools are not ruined by exposure to rain.

We have repaired leaks in the roof of the main cathedral, replaced the flooring and rugs in the main cathedral, and are working on restoring the frescoes and replacing the five main cupolas, and six windows in the main dome, as well as the four crypt doors. We have received generous support for this project; however, it is not completely funded.

We need to raise $200,000 to cover these expenses.

Donation information can be accessed via the monastery website here.

During the week of July 12, the parish of St. Seraphim Memorial Church in Sea Cliff, NY began the process of gold gilding their cupolas.

In Holy Archangel Michael Church in Wayne, NJ, clergy and parishioners began erecting a marble iconostasis, marking the final stages in the construction of their new church.

The parishioners of Holy Myrrhbearers Church in Harrisonburg, VA have been pressing on in their permanent church construction. The septic system has been installed, the church’s exterior is nearly complete, the interior walls have been framed, and they currently are framing the ceiling in the nave directly under the cupola. The parish continues to raise money so they can move in by the end of this year!

The Brotherhood of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV are also expediently joyful to report on the successful progression of the construction of the new monastery church, with the metal in place and concrete ready to pour for the first floor!

Those interested in financially supporting the various projects can find more information by visiting the parish websites linked above.
