Howell, NJ: Bishop James of Sonora pays Archpastoral Visit to St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral

On September 10-11, the 13th Sunday after Pentecost and the feast of the Beheading of the Holy Prophet, Forerunner, and Baptist of the Lord John, Bishop James of Sonora, vicar of the Western American Diocese, paid an archpastoral visit to St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Howell, NJ, where he officiated the All-Night Vigil and Divine Liturgy for the feast.

Serving alongside His Grace were: Archpriest Serge Lukianov (cathedral rector), Archpriest Boris Slootsky, Priest Anthony Williams, Protodeacon Paul Drozdowski, and Deacons Alexandre Sarandinaki and Dimitry Lisan (cathedral clerics).

Gathering to pray at the divine services were cathedral parishioners and faithful from nearby cities. Most of the worshippers communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of the service, Bishop James delivered an edifying sermon on the feast, reminding the faithful that the myrrh-streaming Hawaiian Iveron Icon of the Mother of God would be visiting the cathedral for its patronal feast ‒ that of the Holy Great Prince Alexander Nevsky – on September 12.

The rector thanked Bishop James for their shared prayers, and presented him with a panagia.

In view of its being a fast day, the sisterhood prepared a lenten luncheon for all in the cathedral hall, during which interaction between the clergy and faithful continued.
