Wayne, WV: Metropolitan Nicholas Performs Rite of the Foundation of a Church and Priestly Ordination

On Wednesday, May 24 – the Apodosis of Pascha – the grace of God was poured out with overwhelming abundance on the brotherhood of Holy Cross Monastery in Wayne, WV. The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York, presided at hierarchal Divine Liturgy, which was festively served (according to ancient custom) exactly as on Holy Pascha itself.

The joy of the brotherhood was made yet more full when, immediately following the Great Entrance, His Eminence ordained monastery cleric Hierodeacon Isaac to the holy priesthood.

At the conclusion of Liturgy, Metropolitan Nicholas led a cross procession to the construction site of the new church, whereupon he served the Rite of the Foundation of a Church, placing holy relics into the east wall behind the altar and blessing two beautiful cornerstones, which were generously donated to the monastery by the master stonecarver Michael Lucas.

His Eminence then congratulated the brotherhood on this historic occasion, reminded them of the great gratitude which we ought to feel in our hearts for all the tremendous blessings which the Lord has poured out upon us unworthy ones, and lastly exhorted everyone to continue their prayers and labors toward the completion of the God-pleasing work.

Through his archpastoral blessing and prayers, may the wonderful progress which the monastic fathers and brethren have seen over the past year continue speedily, until the day finally arrives when they can offer prayers and divine worship to the Lord God in this new temple dedicated to His Precious and Life-Giving Cross!
