Brooklyn, NY: On Feast of Pentecost, Bishop Jerome celebrates Liturgy in Holy New Martyrs Church

On Sunday, June 23, the great feast of Holy Pentecost, His Grace, Bishop Jerome (Shaw), paid an archpastoral visit to Holy New Martyrs & Confessors of Russia Church in Brooklyn, NY, where he celebrated the festal Divine Liturgy, followed by Great Vespers with the kneeling prayers.

Concelebrating with His Grace were Archimandrite Gabriel (Pigarev; parish cleric), Abbot Arseny (Manko; rector of Sts. Cosmas & Damian Church in Passaic, NJ), and Deacon Eugene Grigoriak (parish cleric).

Several hundred worshippers filled the church.

Bishop Jerome delivered a sermon on the Psalm verse "Thy Spirit shall lead me in the land of uprightness," and what is meant by that "land of uprightness"?

At Vespers, His Grace read the first set of prayers, Fr. Gabriel the second set, and Fr. Arseny the third set. Then at the end of the service, the clergy blessed a great pile of green sprigs for the feast, which included sprinkling the congregation with holy water and giving each person a sprig.

Afterward, the clergy greeted their hierarchal guest, and presented him with a gift from the parish: a beautifully printed new edition of the Pentecost Kneeling Vespers.

A festal luncheon was then organized for all many attendance, at which many warm words were shared and wishes of "Many Years."
