New York City: On Feast of Our Lady of Kazan, Bishop Theodosius of Seattle celebrates Liturgy in Synodal Cathedral

On July 21, the 4th Sunday after Pentecost and the feast of the Appearance of the Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos in Kazan, His Grace Theodosius, Bishop of Seattle, celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City. Concelebrating with the First Vicar of the Western American Diocese were: cathedral dean Archpriest Andrei Sommer and cathedral clergy: Archpriest Seraphim Chemodakov, Hieromonk Theognost (Kogan), and Protodeacons Nicolas Mokhoff and Serge Arlievsky.

The Synodal choir sang splendidly under the direction of conductor Vadim S. Gan. Also singing in the choir were participants of the Synodal School of Liturgical Music.

A multitude of cathedral parishioners and guests communed of Christ’s Holy Mysteries.

Upon completion of the service, His Grace and the clergy served a short moleben before a copy of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

Bishop Theodosius greeted the clergy and parishioners with the feast and addressed those present with a sermon on the miraculous appearance of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God and the life of the Holy Great-Martyr Procopius, whose memory is also celebrated on this day.

Fr. Andrei Sommer thanked the hierarch for his service in the cathedral, remembering their joint pilgrimage trips and youth events in which he and Bishop Theodosius had taken part. The dean presented His Grace with an icon of the Venerable New-Martyr Princess Elizabeth.

The sisterhood organized a luncheon for the clergy and parishioners in the cathedral hall.
