On Sunday the 18th and Monday the 19th of August, His Eminence Nicholas, Metropolitan of Eastern America & New York, officiated the divine services for the great feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the Synodal Cathedral of the Sign in New York City.
Concelebrating with the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad at Divine Liturgy were cathedral clerics: Archpriests Andrei Sommer (dean) and Seraphim Chemodakov, and Protodeacons Nicolas Mokhoff and Serge Arlievsky.
The Synodal choir sang at Liturgy under the direction of Isaiah Trofimenko. A multitude of the faithful gathered to pray at the great feast.
Upon completion of Liturgy, Metropolitan Nicholas performed the traditional blessing of the fruit baskets.
His Eminence greeted all with the feast, and noted in his sermon: "Having transfigured, the Lord showed His glory to His disciples, just as He shows us His glory today, that we might firmly believe that Christ is the Son of God, Who came to earth to save each one of us, died on the Cross, rose from the dead, and gives us eternal life. Much does the Lord give us, but what do we give to God? Every one of us must consider this. Even this blessed fruit – so lovely and good to eat – even this is from God. And we rejoice that we have our faith and the opportunity to glorify our Savior. Let us strive to give our lives and our hearts to God, glorifying Him unto the ages of ages."
